Young Composers Project

What is the Young Composers Project (YCP)?

The Young Composers Project inspires students in grades 7 through 12 to express themselves creatively in music. This unique program is designed for students of all experience levels and aims to provide each student with the skills necessary to develop his or her own voice as a composer. The course of study found in YCP not only helps prepare students for future compositional work (such as collegiate study or a career in composition), it also deepens their understanding of music, allowing them to grow as performers and listeners.

Classes will be held on Tuesdays at 7:15-8:15 pm, Saturdays at 12:30-1:30 pm, and Saturdays at 2:45-3:45 pm. Students will be assigned to one of those times based on their availability and, where possible, experience and age. When registering, students will indicate their availability for the offered times. They will be notified of their placement the week following the registration deadline.

We will make every effort to place all interested students into an appropriate class. Sections must meet enrollment minimums to run, and additional class times may be offered based on student interest. If you are interested in participating in YCP but cannot attend the times currently offered, please contact Dr. Rudman at [email protected] to be placed on our interest list.

Open to students in grades 7 through 12. Students are expected to read music. No refunds are available for this program.

Registration Deadline: October 1, 2019
